Rachel and Leah
Rachel and Leah are among the matriarchs. We have often spoken of the patriarchs, it is true, but rarely do we talk about Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, Leah and their maids, of course, respectively, Zilpah and Bilhah.
While all these women were used by God to give birth the nation of Israel, we will focus more on Rachel and Leah.
Their story begins when Jacob, Isaac's youngest son goes away after having usurped the birthright of his elder brother Esau with the help of his mother Rebecca, as God had told him that the elder shall serve the younger. But both wanted to help God to accomplish His purposes. We can not help God when he says he will do something. What God wants is just a life of consecration and obedience to his word. The rest, He will. (1 Thessalonians 4: 3).
Due to threats from his brother Esau, Rebecca will ask Jacob to flee and seek refuge with his uncle Laban (Genesis 27 :41-46).Jacob arrives in Charan and finds Rachel, Laban's younger daughter next to a water well. It will come to her as a member of his family (Genesis 29).Genesis 29: 17 tells us this:"Leah's eyes were delicate, but Rachel was beautiful of size and figure. Jacob loved Rachel and said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter. "
Jacob is going to pay her dowry by working seven years with Laban. But the night of the wedding night, Jacob the deceiver will be in turn be deceived: "Do not get me wrong it does not make fun of God, what a man soweth, that shall he also reap" (Galatians 6: 7)
The day after the wedding night Jacob will notice that it was not Rachel, but Leah she had been given to women. Laban will explain this by saying that according to custom the eldest daughter was to be married before the younger (Genesis 29: 26). Thus, it will still 7 more years for Rachel. It is very important to note the degree of love that Jacob had for Rachel. Indeed, Genesis 29: 20 tells us that seven years accounted for only a few days so Jacob he loved Rachel.
Rachel means sheep in Hebrew (Hebrew rahel: sheep), while the name of Leah can mean "cow of wisdom" (Hebrew for the Ah) but also "Tired" (from the Hebrew le'ah).
Genesis 29: Genesis 15 and 30 show the rivalry between two sisters. Leah gave many children to Jacob, which a blessing for a women. Rachel, for her, God had closed her womb (Genesis 30: 2) "Jacob's anger was kindled against Rachel and said, Am I in the place of God that prevents you from being productive? "And the rest of the story tells us that Rachel gave him her servant Bilhah as she could not give birth.
The children of Leah and Rachel
Leah: Reuben: Behold a son Zilpah: Gad: happiness
Simeon graciously hear hear Asher: happy
Levi: attach, attached
Judah: praise the Lord
Issachar: salary, reward
Zebulun: housing
Dina: Judgement
Rachel: Joseph: it adds Bilhah Dan judge, dispensing justice
Benjamin: Son of my right Naphtali: fighting
Note that Leah is the woman who had not first place in the heart of Jacob. However, she will give birth to Levi, the tribe that will receive the priesthood and the tribe of Judah that the Messiah will come down.
It is very important also to note that the names given by Lea demonstrate her love marriage and / or gratitude to God, while those given by Rachel expressed her rivalry with here sister. The rivalry between these two sisters was very prophetic. We can indeed see that during the schism in Israel, when God decided to divide the kingdom into two, following the idolatry of Solomon (1 Kings 11:30-32), the name of Ephraim will be used for the all the northern tribes (SS7: 2, 5.8 to 9; Os: 8.10 and 9.13 and 12.1 to 9)
While in the South, were Judah and Benjamin, Judah being the dominant tribe.
Note also that Ephraim is the younger son of Rachel while Judah is the son of Leah. What a coincidence because the north and south were sometimes in competition as the two sisters.
Law and grace.
Leah represents the law, while Rachel is the result even though we know that God has done more with that which was not beloved by giving more children.Indeed the law has come through before. Without the law there is no grace for grace was hidden in the law.For the law was given through Moses while grace and truth came through Christ. Jesus says in Luke 24: 44 that "the law of Moses the prophets and the psalms spoke of him."
So the law was a shadow of Jesus.
It is very important to note that the prophets wanted to know Christ but the Bible tells us that it was not for them. Moses said to God, "show me your glory" (Exodus 34: 18), in other words, let me see Jesus, as Hebrews 1:3 says, "the Son is the reflection of his glory and the image of His person. " However, God will refuse to reveal his glory to Moses, to whom he will only show the back as Christ showed us the face of God. Manoah wanted to know his name (Judge 13:17, but God refused. Jacob also wanted the revelation (Genesis 32:30).Only in Matthew that God will bring down the veil and the revelation given to Peter and this is where Jesus will reveal the Church, which was a mystery, after Peter was down revelation of His Person. The reason why the Church was not revealed to the prophets of the Old Covenant is because Christ was a hidden mystery (1 Peter 1:10). Thus, people who are part of this entity which is the Church have the revelation of Christ. In other words, WITHOUT THE REVELATION OF CHRIST THERE IS NO CHURCH. Without the revelation of Christ, life did not make sense.Jacob first wanted to bring grace, but we have seen that grace does not precede the law.Leah gave a lot of children but she was not loved as Rachel. Lea which means cow or tired in Hebrew symbolizes the work, the work because it has many birth. She has worked and has made efforts to be approved. The law represents the hard work, effort, work, sacrifice it takes to please God. But Rachel, the one that has not worked had a better place. That's why we are saved not by works but by faith (Titus 3: 5). These are not works that save, but the faith that lead us to practice good works according to the grace of Jesus Christ. When Jacob is going to meet his brother Esau (Genesis 33:1 to 5), it will first put the handmaids and their children, Leah and her child, and finally one that is loved, Rachel and Joseph. Jacob here shows how much he wanted his protection, as Christ loves us and keeps us in the last line to prevent the grave destroys us (Matthew 16), because we are his wife and he has earned, he will save us (John 17).
Rachel, a type of the Church
We see that Rachel was loved but the love of Jacob was not enough. Indeed, it will enter the competition, use techniques (force) to birth (see episode mandrakes) (Genesis 30:14-18). It will also rob the gods of his father, a form of idolatry.
We see that we live in a time when the love of Christ is not enough for Christians, so we are idolaters of the things of this world. When Rachel stole the gods of her father Laban and Jacob came to ask accounts, Jacob without realizing it will launch a word of curse on the person who brought the gods to the God of Jacob: "Perish the from which you will find your God "(Genesis 31:32). This word will be fulfilled on her when she died while giving birth to Benjamin (Genesis 35 :16-20).Similarly there is a word of judgments against those who are trying to defile the body of Christ with false doctrine. God will judge His Church (Romans 1 verse 18).The gods also represent apostasy, strange fire, as was the case for the last Church of the Apocalypse which is Laodicea which symbolizes the gospel of prosperity gospel that is simply a strange fire. And we are in those times.
After the death of Rachel, Jacob will be buried on the way to Ephrath which is Bethlehem (Genesis 35: 19). It's weird because it will later bring the grace and truth will be born in Bethlehem (Matthew 2).
While Leah will be buried with Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebecca, and Jacob (Genesis 49:29-33).We know that the law came by Moses, therefore, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob have known a little grace, but that grace was only partial because Jesus was hidden while the mystery is revealed. And when we see the current state of the church, it's really a shame, we do not know if God is still present. The true Church is the one that feared God with a pure heart, and eagerly awaits his return. I think the times are difficult and will be increasingly. I also believe that a terrible persecution will come to clean the church because people will either remain in the system that is totally evil - by system I mean the religion and the system of the beast - or to be close to Christ.Only the Bridegroom knows those who belong, and many will be surprised when he returns. For me if there will be little to leave, I'll be gone, because we have received the truth
